We teach social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period through to the modern day, focusing in particular on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India.
Our emphasis is very much on ‘doing history’. You’ll use primary sources from the very beginning of your studies, and analyse various kinds of historical evidence, including written and oral materials, maps, visual images, feature films, art, and music.
You will consider how the use of sources and media representations inform our reconstructions of the past. You will reflect critically on key debates in history, looking at how they have developed over time, and how they have shaped our understanding of the world. You will also learn how historians ‘make’ history, and evaluate their roles in today’s public life, media, and the heritage industry.
You’ll benefit from our close links with the University’s聽Archives, Records Management, and Museum Services, and be able to examine many original documents first-hand.
Use of archives, both physical and online, will allow you to develop your research skills, including palaeography (reading old handwriting), database analysis, project planning, and team work.
You’ll also study one Spanish module per semester in each year, either as a beginner or at intensive level if you have previously studied the language at Higher/A-Level.
If you do not meet our academic grade requirements for your chosen course, we can offer you an alternative route to begin your studies. Our international incorporated degrees will develop your subject knowledge, academic English and university level study skills.

The IS1 is the first year of a four year International Incorporated Bachelors. And its designed to strengthen your English language abilities and introduce core concepts and knowledge required at university study level.聽 Once you have successfully completed your studies you will continue the remaining stages of your degree directly with the University of your choice.

Students at the International College may be considered for a number of Scholarships that are part of the University of Dundee Scholarship offerings, such as the Global Citizenship Scholarship which awards students up to 拢5,000 per year of study. Another award is the ICD Progressing with Excellence Scholarship which recognises academic achievement while studying at the International College and awards up to 拢6,000 per year of study.
These scholarships are awarded for the University of Dundee period of study. Other Scholarships may be available for the ICD period of study, and you should contact your agent or 蜜桃传媒 International regional representative for full details of these.
